good hope soap
Natural, small-batch cold process soap handmade in Kent, South East England
Ever since I was in my early teens growing up in South Africa I used to raid the kitchen to make my own natural skin and hair care products. I remember that toner that I made by boiling orange peels and I remember the numerous face and hair masks using combinations of oats and honey and egg and olive oil. And then somehow I stopped and started buying the chemical-laden brightly packaged enticing products from the store. When I was growing up though, I was taught to appreciate the power and the healing properties of natural, whether it to be a mental or physical healing. So it wasn’t long before I went back to more natural products, still buying them and not making them but with more consideration for what I was putting on my skin. And when I did a soap making course in Portugal, I was hooked. I’d come full circle – back to raiding the kitchen to make my own, but with just a bit more knowledge and science behind me this time.
At Good Hope Soap, I believe that simplicity and clarity lead to good products. I carefully choose the ingredients, using as few as possible to be effective. I thoroughly research and handcraft each product so I know exactly what goes into everything I make. I don't use any synthetic fragrances or colouring (or SLS or parabens) - only pure natural ingredients that are good to your skin.
And good to the earth - the packaging is simple, home compostable, recycled and recyclable and I try to keep my production waste to the absolute minimum.
And good to animals - I only test the products on myself, my friends and family, and never on animals.
I hope you feel as good about using these products as I do about making them.
