Legend surrounding this oil dates back to 1413 in the time of the Bubonic Plague (aka The Black Death) in France. Four thieves, who themselves never contracted the plague, were captured and charged for stealing from the sick and dying. The crime for this was punishable by burning alive but the judge told them he would spare them if they shared their secret. The thieves, (who were now unemployed due to the port closures as a result of the plague) were perfume and spice merchants and had prepared an essential oil recipe that when applied to their pulse points & a mask over their mouths, kept them safe from infection. (The judge hung them instead of burning them alive.)
From then on, the doctors who treated the Black Death victims put the herbal infusion on their hands, ears, temples & feet, and wore beak-like masks stuffed with cloths containing this special blend of five essential oils: clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary.

Absorbent activated charcoal detoxifies skin. The charcoal is "activated" by steam processing it at very high temperatures. The high temperatures change its internal structure, reducing the size of its pores and increasing its surface area. This means that each grain of charcoal in your soap absorbs more toxins and impurities from your skin, preventing your body from absorbing them.
Kaolin clay is one of the gentlest cosmetic clays used in skincare. It has the ability to detoxify the skin but it doesn’t dry it out at the same time and is suitable for even sensitive skins.
